Military Obstacles: 25mm Church
Sculpted by Mark Strachan for the old Military Miniatures over here in New Zealand. Military Miniatures has since mutated into Battlefront of Flames of War fame. Word has it that the mould &/or master for this is probably deep in the Battlefront vaults somewhere gathering dust. To the knowledge of von Peter himself it is currently unavailable.
I got into the habit of buying Mark’s latest interesting releases as soon as they were available. They would then be held ‘in stock’ until the day that pigmentation would finally be applied. As in this case, that could mean a several year wait.
Like many of my terrain pieces pigmentation applied by Craig Watterson ... otherwise it would still be ‘in stock’ awaiting that all important colouration. As is obvious from the photos Craig does a rather fine job. For my own selfish purposes I like to slip him a terrain piece every now and then for him to apply his craft. After all it is good for him to keep his craft honed to such high levels! 😇
There is a serious amount of resin invested in creating this place of worship. It has the honour of being von Peter's heaviest terrain piece. Good for anchoring a flank in a game!!! Groan.
Epilogue:
The tragic photo to the left shows what results when an egotistical hobbyist is rushing around madly trying to photo his pride and joy ... and unintentionally knocks the spire of a church with his elbow sending the innocent church racing towards the deck with only a foot shoved under it to lessen the impact.
Arrgggghhhhh!!!
It sure looked better as one piece rather than three!!! Luckily ‘dry runs’ indicated that it should go back together without too much drama. And thankfully it did.
Let this be a lesson to all budding self publicists when rushing around setting up photos. In the end I got off lightly. It could have been much MUCH worse ... gulp!!!
What’s that mad monk Father Disputin doing here? Someone must have mentioned the word church and he’s lost the plot ... again.
A word to the wise. Don’t disappoint him should he want you to make a ‘donation’ to the .... ah ... church. He can be rather persuasive and has helped more than one or two on their way to meet their Holy Father. Sooner rather than later!
